Dermot Murnaghan
Dermot Murnaghan was a founder client of KBJ and we were honoured to work with him over the course of his long and distinguished career.
As a broadcaster, his career spanned four decades and all of the UK’s major broadcast networks. He helmed many of the UK’s most prominent news programmes, including ITV’s News at Ten, BBC Breakfast and Channel 4 News.
Dermot spent sixteen years as one of the lead anchors on Sky News, where among other roles he fronted Murnaghan on Sunday, a weekly show interviewing some of the biggest names in politics.
Over the course of his career he was at the fore of some of the biggest national stories. In 1997 he broke the news to the nation of the death of Princess Diana, and in 2022 he stood outside Buckingham Palace to announce the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
As well as covering the news, Dermot also hosted the BBC quiz show Eggheads between 2003 and 2014, and following his retirement from Sky he launched the podcast Legends of News, speaking to his peers about their shared experiences in the UK’s newsrooms covering major stories.
In 2000 Dermot won the prestigious Newscaster of the Year award from the Television & Radio Industries Club - an award given for 'maintaining a consistent standard above all others'. He also won the 1999 Royal Television Society’s Interviewer of The Year Award for his interview with Peter Mandelson, which resulted in Mandelson’s resignation from the Cabinet.
In 2025 Dermot announced he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer, and took on a new role; that of a campaigner. Joining forces with Prostate Cancer Research and Prostate Cancer UK he led the call for earlier testing among men and used his profile to further this message. Not one to let his illness stop him, while undergoing treatment he not only launched his podcast, but also completed Chris Hoy’s Tour de Four bike ride, and filmed an exclusive interview with Sir Cliff Richard about his own diagnosis.
Most importantly though in 2026 he saw his beloved Arsenal win the Premier League.
