Tom is an award-winning historian, author and broadcaster, best known as co-host of the international hit podcast, The Rest is History
He has written several critically acclaimed books, focusing predominantly on ancient and medieval history. Rubicon, an examination of the fall of Rome’s Republic, won the Hessell-Tiltman Prize and was shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Prize and his book, Dominion, was the Sunday Times’ History Book of the Year for 2019.
In addition to writing, Tom has presented programmes for television and radio. His 2012 Channel 4 documentary Islam: The Untold Story explored the early history of Islam, a subject he touched on again his 2017 documentary, Isis: The Origins of Violence.
He also presented Dinosaurs, Myths and Monsters for BBC Four, Making History for BBC Radio 4 and is a frequent contributor for In Our Time.
